Construction companies and contractors may apply for a permit that allows the use of fire hydrants as a source of construction water. Permit applications can be made with the customer service
staff and are reviewed by the Technical Services Department.
Specific hydrant(s) will be designated for authorized use. A $1,000 deposit is charged prior to issuance of a hydrant meter. Permits are limited to six months, although additional six month renewals my be granted if the hydrant meter is brought to the office for a meter reading and the resulting bill is paid in a timely manner. The hydrant meter permit must be in the vehicle drawing water from a hydrant.
Accessing fire hydrants for construction water without a permit will result in penalties.
